Orbital Eccentricity Project


 

New Measurements:

    In this second method of measuring eccentricity, you need to measure you ellipse's semi-major axis and the distance from the center of the ellipse to one focus:

 

    Once you have measured your ellipse's semi-major axis (d) and the distance from the center of the ellipse to one focus (c), here is the extremely easy equation for your ellipse's eccentricity (this should be fairly close to the last value for eccentricity you calculated):
